I was completely shattered when I heard that Anne McCaffrey died yesterday. She has been such a gigantic influence in my life, especially my artwork. I can't believe she's gone... but I feel so honored that I could be alive at the same time on earth that she was, and I think she even got to see some of my artwork of Pern.
This... ugh, it doesn't feel close to doing justice to her, but this is my expression of the loss of the creator of Pern. F'lar and Lessa holding each other in the darkness of their weyr, with Ramoth and all of the dragons of Pern keening Anne's loss. I wish it could be more polished, but it became harder and harder to keep working on it, and by the end I was sobbing.
We'll always miss you, Anne. I wish I could have met you, but I can still dive into the worlds you so colorfully crafted.

It was awful losing her. Her son does try, but he doesnt have the same voice and style that she had. We lost someone great when we lost her. I sat reading Dragonsdawn today and I kept stopping and sniffling at odd parts. She wrote in such a way that we were there, with them and their losses were ours. Their triumphs were ours. Now... we all have lost her.
